MSD and Virat Kohli – Two Players who have played every bit to make India best ODI team of Decade!

Multiple news agencies both national and international claim that the Indian Cricket Team is the best ODI team of the decade and I will jump right up to agree on this point. Ranchi boy Dhoni’s captaincy is unquestionably the best so far in the history of Indian Cricket. Firstly under Dhoni’s cool captaincy Indian Cricket Team went on to become the top Test Cricket Team in the year 2010 and that was followed by a determined Indian ODI teams World Cup 2011 triumph. A victory that brought India World Cup Trophy after 28 years.

Two years later in 2013, India managed to defeat England in the Champions Trophy Final at Lords, thus completing a treble in the life of MSD’s Captaincy. A rare feat that no captain has ever achieved. MSD is also picked as the captain of the decade for the ODI Team by Cricket Australia. He is the biggest advantage that India has ever had and will miss MSD whenever he takes retirement.

But not before setting up a flamboyant player with an aggressive approach unlike captain cool. Though the way of dealing with the teams would’ve changed from Dhoni’s time to Kohli, there’s no change in the winning intent of the team. In fact, it had gone up under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. Dhoni finished with 59% in his 200 matches as India captain. Taking over Dhoni, Kohli in his 83 matches has won at 74.6%.

Yes, there’s still a long way to go for King Kohli. The road looks set though as India aims to reach new heights and dream of becoming the most powerful team in cricket. The same is echoed by every team player in their passion to win the game for the team. Fielding levels have improved impressively and bowling has become a lethal weapon for India which has never been the case in history.

All that’s viable from here for team India is to take the game to the next level every year. And continue to remain the most dominating team by end of the year 2029.

Some stats:

  • Virat Kohli is the highest international run-getter in the last decade.
  • Ashwin is the highest international wicket-taker in the last decade.
  • India has won the highest number of bilateral series than any other team in the last decade.
