Higher Education in India and a Student’s expectations!

What does a Student expect from his Higher Education (Post Graduation) or rather an Education Institute?

A student pursuing MBA or any other post-graduation course in this modern era from top B Schools will be at an average of 25 years. Otherwise, any other PG course student will be aged around 21-22. This 2 years gap with the experience that each of them holds, the expectations of the students aspiring for B Schools will be much different compared to the other students. It is the expectations that students have matters a lot for an institution, for its own Development & Growth.
With whatever conversations that I have with the students from various colleges and the students of my own college, I will put forth a few points which a student feels are the most important in selecting a college.

First and foremost the big question that each student wants an answer for is the Job opportunities. Which I feel is something very clear, you can’t take the colleges as granted and look for placement as ‘Job Market’. A successful placement needs 100% from both the Students and as well the College.

Secondly, Students look at the Course and its benefits. But the most critical thing these days for students in selecting the colleges has been the Size of the campus and the amenities provided by the institute. Students mentality is different from the ones of parents. But mutually the point that they look at is the campus. It matters for the students because, normally, it’s the belief that the bigger campus has got a lot of things in it and that’s automatic. Not hundred percent right, but this belief is also not wrong. The crucial point I think Students don’t look for in B School is the Faculty. Agreeable because they feel it is implied that the faculty will be great. Whereas when you compare it to the other B Schools with a lower brand value, the students are keen on the Faculty and that’s the only thing which will let them to choose the college.

How important is faculty and where does this stand in comparison to other factors?

“Not necessarily the bigger campus will give us the best faculty and not necessary that a small campus will have a bad faculty”.

The point to ponder is that Faculty is the most crucial factor in choosing any college. But it’s happening another way around, students think that the automation comes in with bigger campuses and not the smaller ones. From the point of view of an Institute which is targeting growth, it’s always suggestable to go with the bigger campuses. It’s like putting the things at the right place, like 11 players in a team must perform well for winning, even in case of a development of an institute all the checkpoints should be well placed. Because, unfortunately, for smaller campuses even though the faculty is really good, the noticeability factor remains to be too less and that’s how the college doesn’t increase its value as faster as any other Top B Schools. That’s how the Brand name of the smaller schools isn’t quite what it is actually.
